Barney Culver - Cello

Born in 1979, Barney Culver started his studies on the cello at the age of  3.  Soon after continuing his studies with Nina DeVeritch, he gave his first solo recital at the age of 10.  Soloing and performing with various classical, bluegrass and improvisatory groups helped round out his high school career. In 1997, Barney attended the University of Michigan where he studied with Anthony Elliott.  While there he enjoyed many successes in a variety of musical settings including principal of the University Symphony Orchestra, cellist of the Creative Arts Orchestra, and performing with many chamber ensembles throughout his bachelors degree.  Barney now lives in Pittsburgh, PA where he studies with Anne Martindale Williams and David Premo at Carnegie Mellon University where he will finish his masters degree in May.  While living in Southwest Pennsylvania, he has been principal of the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, cellist of the Starling Honors String Quartet, principal cellist of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra and has performed frequently with the Pittsburgh Live Chamber Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony, New World Symphony and the Pittsburgh Opera.  Mr. Culver continues to enjoy his successes on and off the stage.  He is a well traveled teacher, mentor and clinician throughout the eastern United States.
